Solid Waste Contract in Australia

The Directors of Virotec Global Solutions are pleased to announce that Virotec has entered into a contract to supply ViroFlow™ Technology solid waste treatment services to Nyrstar Hobart Pty Ltd (formerly part of Zinifex Ltd) (“Nyrstar”). The contract is to treat mercurous filter cake and is expected to generate up to AUD$3.5 Million in revenue.  Work on the contract will commence in the first quarter of 2008 and is expected to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of 2008.

The service will involve transferring the solid waste from Nyrstar’s site in Hobart, Tasmania to Virotec’s waste treatment facility in Queensland. Once treated, the solid waste will be disposed, classified as an inert material, into a landfill. The Queensland Environmental Protection Agency and the Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment have approved the project. Virotec’s ViroFlow™ Technology treatment will bind the mercury, which is present in the solid filter cake, in such a way as to make it chemically inert and environmentally safe for long-term landfill.

Daniel Blair, Virotec’s General Manager of the Australian operations, stated “We have been working with Nyrstar for several months, and this contract follows successful testing and a field trial where Virotec was required to demonstrate the chemical and commercial viability of our ViroFlow™ Technology solution.”

Nyrstar is the world’s largest zinc metal producer, and is also one of the world’s largest primary lead smelting and refining companies.

Mr Brian Sheeran, Executive Chairman of Virotec added “This contract will allow us to demonstrate the effectiveness of our unique Technology and further enhances the profitability of the Australian operations. Furthermore, we are in the process of demonstrating the efficacy of the Technology on additional waste streams  for other companies and we are confident that on the completion of this work, additional contracts will be awarded to Virotec”.
